Abstract:
This paper will report on the effects observed, and will describe the various methodologies that we have used to minimise the risk associated with the use of COTS devices in space. We show the practical importance of resilient error-detection and correction coding schemes to protect spacecraft data and control software, and the need for adequate levels of shielding against total ionising radiation dose.
