Abstract:

The Earth observation ground infrastructure has so far been largely defined and sized by the magnitude of the supply of Earth observation data. The Landsat, SPOT and ESA EARTHNET programmes illustrate the way in which a good service has been developed as a result of the need to process the incoming data. There are also initiatives in the commercial field to provide improved data services to users, for example the marketing agreement between EOSAT and EURIMAGE to market Landsat data.
